What is Deregulation, and How Does It Work?

energy deregulation Many U.S. states have deregulated energy – giving customers options for purchasing energy. Deregulation allows energy-supply companies to compete for your services. This competition effectively lowers the price you pay for energy. If energy is deregulated in your area, you are free to shop for your gas or electricity supply, which is offered by various supply companies including the local Utility company. If your state is not deregulated, you have no choice. You can only buy your energy from your Utility. If you do choose an approved energy supplier, your Utility will still continue providing the same delivery service as always, including the reading of your meter.
